My best friend and her guy have just been bereaved, which has left them both skint and in need of a break. They want to come and see me in Edinburgh, but I can’t afford to pay for them and they can’t afford to pay for themselves, as the cheapest bus ticket for the two is over £100 and the train the same or more!

Anybody got any ideas? I have tried a liftshare site but nobody is travelling this weekend.

my solution? meet somewhere in between so you both get a holiday. failing that how about renting a car? that might be cheaper if you get a weekend deal and a compact car. hitch hiking is obviously dangerous. lift shares are a good idea. i think there are websites for this thing. maybe ad’s in the newspaper? you could walk but it is a bit far. lol. biking the same thing. :) motorbikes? how about a cheap flight???? that’s an idea. how about easy jet or another budget airline`?? they can be cheaper than the bus. good luck!

I’ve managed to get train tickets for this journey cheaper than that, depending on what you want to spend. If you phone national rail enquires and ask them for the cheapest way you need to be flexible with route and times for setting off but you can usually get tickets cheaper that way! Also you could phone national express and see how much the coach is and then see if there are any offers in the paper which there often is!

If they book well in advance National Express Coaches appears to be at 75GBP return for two, but you’ll need to check.

you can go from london to edinburgh on train for £50 per person return if you book far enough ahead… so yorkshire to ediburgh should be cheaper. sadly you usually need to book quite far ahead, maybe they could come in a few weeks?

    check here.

No way is the train over £100. I went to York from Edinburgh (in First Class) for £12.50 return with National Express.

£100……. No, I should get a coach for much less than that. Google “National express”.
