What’s the best way to travel on Open final day from Carnoustie to Edinburgh Airport – train or car?

I’m going to the final day of The Open. I’ve a flight to catch at 10pm from Edinburgh on Sunday night. Train travel seems to be easiest from Carnoustie to Edinburgh but concerned that trains will be overwhelmed by the crowds and will be difficult to get back. Anyone got ideas?
