i am looking to go at manchester for a day from and i am in edinburgh however i want to make the travel as cheap as possible. i know raileurope.com charges 320$ round trip which is way tooo much. can anyone help here?

my boyfriend and his friend want to drive and catch ferry from uk to republic of ireland , he doesnt have a passport, does he need one or can is it not needed to travel to ireland?
he wont be the driver but he has a provisional licence, any good?
My 10 months old is planning to visit UK (London) while coming back to USA from India with his grand parents. He is holding american passport. Both of us, parents, are Indian citizen on H-1 visa in USA. Does he need visitor visa to visit UK? Are there any other travel tips or travel visa requirement? Appreciate the answers.
